Yes, there are a number of different options for purchasing MyStudentBody. MyStudentBody is a comprehensive solution for promoting student health and wellness, integrating distinct programs for students, parents, and administrators. What are the scientific theories behind MyStudentBody?

The student program is a research-tested intervention, the centerpiece of which are the “Rate Myself” assessments that are modeled on the effective BASICS program . These self-assessments provide students with personalized motivational feedback. The program also gives students access to necessary health information, and offers practical health protection strategies to help reduce risk and improve self-efficacy, consistent with the Health Belief Model . Finally, students have access to normative information and statistics about college students and risky behavior, consistent with social norms theory.

These approaches are aimed at giving students the skills they need to make informed, healthy decisions.

How has MyStudentBody been tested?

MyStudentBody was developed with grant support the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has therefore been subject to field trials to test efficacy. Here’s a summary of the findings from these NIH-sponsored field trials, with links for details.

A number of schools have also used MyStudentBody in their own research on student health and wellness. If you’d like to use the program for your research, contact us.

What kind of student data does MyStudentBody provide?

Administrators have access to two types of data about students: 1. information about each student’s course completion, and 2. de-identified, aggregate data about the student body as a whole.

For each student, you can check the date that a course was completed, the pre-test score, and the post-test score. We do not provide access to an individual student’s answers regarding health and wellness-related behaviors.

To monitor trends in students’ self-reported beliefs and behavior, you can access de-identified, aggregate data drawn from assessments such as the “Rate Myself” questions in each component of the MyStudentBody program.

You can also view reports on demographics, traffic on the site, and student satisfaction with the program.

Is it possible to “pre-register” our students?

Yes. You can assign students a username and temporary password, and use our Bulk Registration tool to upload the student registration data. Many schools chose to use a student’s school email address and student ID for the username and temporary password, and instruct students to change their passwords once they’ve logged in to the program.

Administrators often use bulk registration to ensure consistency in the registration process. This type of registration can make it easier for you to look up information about course completion or integrate course completion information with other databases, such as a database in your registrar’s office.

How are other schools using MyStudentBody?

MyStudentBody is a flexible, comprehensive program for promoting student health and wellness, so it can be used in wide variety of ways. You can read about how some schools are using MyStudentBody here.

Here’s a quick overview of options for using MyStudentBody:

  • As a requirement for incoming students: Many schools require incoming students to take one or more courses to send a consistent message about their values and expectations regarding alcohol and other drug use, as well as to provide consistent education about student health concerns such as nutrition, tobacco use, and stress management.
  • As a judicial sanction: Schools can also use specially tailored MyStudentBody courses as sanctions for students who have violated policies regarding alcohol and other drug use.
  • To reach specific student populations: MyStudentBody also has courses for Athletes and Greeks, with content that addresses the needs of these student populations.
  • To engage parents in supporting a healthy transition to adult life: A number of schools use MyStudentBody’s parent program as part of orientation; to reach out to parents by linking to the program from a parent portal website; and as a resource for parent-targeted communications such as newsletters. Administrators can download and print a special Parent Guide that can be distributed during parent weekends, or included in admissions and/or orientation kits.
  • To monitor student health trends on campus: Administrators use MyStudentBody’s reporting tools to review aggregate data about students’ self-reported behaviors and attitudes related to alcohol and other drugs, as well as to compare their results with data from other schools.
  • To research, develop, and implement campus-wide prevention initiatives: MyStudentBody’s administrative resources and tools help college health professionals find evidence-based strategies for addressing the specific concerns on their campus, as well as to reach out to their colleagues and develop a campus-wide taskforce for creating change.
