Course Questions

Why do I have to take a MyStudentBody course?

MyStudentBody helps to ensure that all students at your school receive the same information about alcohol, drugs, and sexual violence. It will also help you to understand what’s expected of you at your school regarding your use of alcohol and other drugs.

Alcohol and other drug use aren’t problematic for a majority of students; many don’t drink or use drugs at all. Even if you don’t use alcohol or drugs, chances are that you know someone who does. Many students learn a lot about alcohol and drugs in high school, but college is a different playing field with a different set of consequences. This course will show you how to make safer and healthier decisions for yourself and how to help others do the same.

Bottom line: If you choose to drink, MyStudentBody encourages you to drink responsibly. If you choose not to drink, MyStudentBody will help you handle situations where other people are drinking.

Some of these questions are personal. How is my privacy protected?

Privacy of personal information is a priority for MyStudentBody, which complies with federal law under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). For more detailed information, you can read our privacy policy. Administrators can verify that you’ve completed a course in MyStudentBody’s course completion report, but that’s the only personally identifiable information provided. All other information is de-identified and aggregated — for example, “40% of students are abstainers from alcohol.”

How is my personal information kept safe and secure?

MyStudentBody uses industry-standard security practices for data in transit and at rest. We are FERPA-compliant. For more information, contact us for our security statement.

What’s the deadline for completing the course?

Check the instructions you received from your school or check with your school’s MyStudentBody administrator. If you’re unsure whom to contact, check your school’s website for more information.

What happens if I don’t complete the course?

Each school has its own consequences for not completing the course. First, check the instructions you received from your school. If no consequences are listed, we recommend contacting your school’s MyStudentBody administrator or checking your school’s website. Common consequences include not being able to register for classes or having to pay a fine.

How do I complete a course?

Check the instructions you received from your school to confirm which courses and modules you’re required to complete. In each module, you must complete the assessment, pre-test (10-20 questions, depending on the topic), course material, and post-test (10-20 questions, depending on the topic). To get your certificate of completion you must also complete the course survey. Please note that student are usually asked to take only one course— most often the Essentials course.

Some schools require a follow-up assessment to fully complete a course. In that event, you’ll receive an email notifying you to return to MyStudentBody to take a follow-up questionnaire. You can find the follow-up assessment on the My Stuff page. The follow-up is NOT the same thing as the course-- it is only survey questions and it will only take a few minutes.

How long does it take to complete a course?

The Essentials Course typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The Student Conduct Course typically takes 1 hour. Additionally, if your school requires the follow-up assessment, you’ll receive an email notification to return to MyStudentBody to take a 15-minute questionnaire.

Will my progress be saved if I log out before completing the course?

You don’t have to complete the course in one sitting. Your progress will be saved if you log out during most portions of the course by just clicking the Log Out button.

If you try to log out, navigate to another page, or click the Back button of your browser at any point during the self-assessment, the pre-test, and the post-test, a pop-up box will appear that says “This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave — data you have entered may not be saved.” If you click Leave Page, you’ll navigate away from the current page and it’s possible your progress will not be saved. Click Stay on Page to finish your work on that page and save your progress.

A pop-up appeared that says “This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave — data you have entered may not be saved.” What does that mean?

If you try to log out, navigate to another page, or click the Back button of your browser at any point during a course, this pop-up will appear to confirm that you want to leave the current page. How do I continue a course that I’ve already started?

Log in using your username and password. On the My Stuff page you’ll see the courses on the left side, showing the date you started and your status. Click In Progress to continue your course.

How will I know when I’ve completed the course?

Each course contains multiple modules. Check the instructions you received from your school to confirm
which course and modules you’re required to complete. Once you’ve finished the post-test and completed the course survey, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. On the My Stuff page you’ll also see Completed under the status for the course.

Some schools require a follow-up assessment to fully complete a course. In that event, you’ll receive an email notifying you to return to MyStudentBody to take a follow-up questionnaire. You can find the follow-up assessment on the My Stuff page. If you visit the site before it is available, it will give you the date it will become available.

I’ve taken the post-test several times, but still haven’t passed. Now what?

After a certain number of failed attempts at passing, you won’t be able to continue. Contact your school’s MyStudentBody administrator for advice about how to proceed. You may have your course reset so you can try again. If you’re unsure whom to contact, check your school’s website for more information.

How do I get a certificate of completion?

First, complete the course by passing the post-test in each module. Next, take the course survey. You’ll then receive your certificate of completion. You can access your certificate of completion at any time from the My Stuff page by clicking Completed under the Essentials Course or Student Conduct Course status. You can also email or print the certificate from that page. Note: You don’t receive a certificate of completion for the follow-up assessment.

Do I have to email my certificate to get credit for the course?

Check the instructions that you received from your school. Your school’s MyStudentBody administrator and/or instructor has access to reports indicating whether or not you’ve completed a course, but you also may need to submit a printed or emailed copy for your school’s records. You do not have to provide a completion certificate to MyStudentBody staff, except when requested to resolve technical difficulties.

I completed a course a while ago. Why did I receive an email asking me to take a "follow-up" assessment?

If you’ve received a reminder email, then your school requires the follow-up assessment, which is a 15-minute questionnaire. You’ll receive weekly reminder emails until you complete the assessment.

To take the follow-up assessment, log into MyStudentBody and click Take Now under the Essentials Course or Student Conduct Course status on the My Stuff page. Once you’ve completed the follow-up assessment, you’ll be directed back to the My Stuff page and your follow-up assessment status will change to Completed.

I transferred from a school where I already took the MyStudentBody course. Do I have to take it again?

That depends on your current school’s policy; check with your current school’s MyStudentBody administrator. If you’re unsure whom to contact, check your school’s website for more information. MyStudentBody can’t provide your school’s administrators with confirmation that you’ve completed a MyStudentBody course at another school; however, some schools may accept a certificate of completion as proof that you’ve already completed the course.
